Job Purpose:


To accelerate market share growth for Speedo in China by building and executing the product plan across direct to consumer and wholesale channels in China. The role should collaborate with Global Product and Operations teams as well as locally-focussed Marketing and Commercial teams to determine the appropriate range assortments based on consumer, shopper, platform and customer needs and ensure delivery on key performance metrics.


Job Dimensions:

  • A senior management role within the Speedo China Leadership Team
  • Champions’ category-level thinking China and leads development of category strategy
  • Leads the overall product direction for China and implementation of annual range plans as well as seasonal, injection and SMU programs
  • Prioritizes key categories and defines relevant product strategy for them
  • Works with Regional product team to influence the Annual/Seasonal Global Range plan with data analysis, particularly consumer and customer sell-through.
  • Defines the role and needs of all direct to consumer (includes .cn and TMall flagship) and wholesale (includes online and offline customers) channels for Speedo in China
  • Adopts and edits Global/Regional product assortments to tailor them to specific needs of the direct to consumer and wholesale channels in China
  • Builds product segmentation strategy by channel & recommends the optimal assortments
  • Agrees appropriate stock and replenishment programs with demand planning and operations teams for direct to consumer and wholesale channels;
  • Collaborates with the China Category & Insight Analyst to gain and share category insights, in order to identify gaps and potential business opportunities and brief into Global Product team
  • Aligns with the marketing teams to ensure relevance and impact of product communications both in-store and online
  • Analyzes the marketplace, consumer insights, and competitive data to prepare market and channel assessments regarding trends and metrics
  • Reviews and refines current product, pricing and promotion principles for direct to consumer and wholesale channels
  • Determines Recommended Retail Prices (RRPs) for China based on deep understanding of consumer, competitor product and brand positioning
  • Supports trade meetings including input into catalogue content

Areas of Accountability:

  • Develops and executes range assortment strategies for all direct to consumer and wholesale channels in order to deliver sustainable and profitable growth and create differentiation
  • Owns & develops bespoke and compelling sell-in tools for the proposed ranges, always presented in a category growth context
  • Ensures assortments balance both Speedo’s brand ambitions and particular channels needs
  • Balance the impact and value of channel planning with our Design, Development and Vendor capabilities, understanding implications to the development process
  • Delivers range performance within D2C and wholesale channels



                         What you need to have

Knowledge Required:

  • Strong experience of product merchandising in the sports, apparel and/or footwear industries within a Global brand or brands in China.
  • High level of commercial acumen and data focus, in particular with regards to growing and managing categories through online and offline channels in China
  • Understands how to create holistic Category led solutions
  • Great understanding of value from different lenses – brand, consumer, platform and customer
  • Knows how to grow sales and margin performance through the use of innovation, range planning and a clear understanding of product cost drivers
  • Understands consumer, shopper, channel needs and / or knows how to gather the appropriate insight to boost knowledge
  • Understands key online and offline channels in China including requirements, differences and limitations (shelf back thinking);
  • Marketing experience, in particular with communications, packaging and online and in-store activation is desirable
