The legend of a fantastic tennis player, René Lacoste, a member of the famous French "Musketeers" Davis Cup Team and a star of the courts at Wimbledon, Forest Hills and Roland Garros.


The true story of "the Crocodile" dates back to 1927. René Lacoste liked to recount how this nickname came about and ultimately became a brand of worldwide renown.


“I was nicknamed "the Crocodile" by the American press, after I made a bet with the captain of the French Davis Cup Team. The public must have been fond of this nickname which conveyed the tenacity I displayed on the tennis courts, never letting go of my prey.”


In 1933, René Lacoste founded a company to manufacture the perfect tennis shirt. The original “1212” pique polo shirt featured the now legendary embroidered crocodile on the left breast - Lacoste was born and revolutionised sportswear and branding within sport.


Pentland is the name behind some of the world’s best sports, outdoor and fashion brands.

The JV aims to be renowned for its premium quality and innovative footwear, with an emphasis on sports-influenced styles.


As the Commercial Business Partner, Lacoste Footwear you will:

Report directly into the Financial Controller. Be considered to be an integral part of the Lacoste JV Finance team and wider commercial leads across Product, Supply Chain and the wider Lacoste Commercial network. Be part of the wider Lacoste and Pentland Finance Community, participating in projects and processes as required



Your proven experience of business partnering will enable you to be pragmatic and creative in your approach, building rapport, and delivering insights and added value across the commercial functions (Product, Supply Chain and wider commercial Lacoste network). Ensuring financial clarity and input at the beginning of key decisions rather than financial sign off at the end.





Create the link between the Lacoste JV long term Strategy (PMT pack)and how this is to be cascaded down from 3 year plan, current year and then into each seasonal forecasts, ensuring alignment across the commercial market targets and the product category targets.


  • Responsible for Lacoste JV sales which includes tracking, measurement and communicating by liaising directly with relevant business heads and reporting after each buy including details of key takeouts. 
  • Together with the Insights team, understand data from markets to influence tactical decision-making, channel strategy, routes to market and product selection. 
  • Analyse and understand market dynamics to develop market and pricing opportunities, driving growth and profitability including benchmarking wholesale growth, profitability, market share, customer profitability.
  • Embed robust reporting to ensure all areas of the business understand the performance of the JV and are able to respond to areas which are off track, this will include:
    • Sales and order book dashboard (volume / value and margin)
    • Product KPIs
    • Supply Chain metrics


  • Act as a liaison with the Lacoste commercial leads, manage and own the global wholesale sales including all annual reporting
  • Ad hoc requests driven by the JV Exec, JV CFO, Financial Controller
  • Be responsible for all Commercial Budgets, Forecasts and long term plans (including PMT) – to an agreed format.
  • Challenge and analysis of plans, forecasts and targets to ensure a robust approach is taken.
  • Proactively support the streamlining of all financial analytical processes eg Budgeting,
    • Manage the cost base of the Product and Supply Chain teams – ensuring budget is attained and where possible cost savings/efficiencies are considered
    • Regular cost centre reviews for all Product / Supply Chain cost centres
    • Cost KPI’S tracked and reviewed with senior management
  • Working closely with the Financial Controller, responsible for all Sales aspects of statutory reporting
  • Building financial partnerships within a diverse and matrixed organisation
  • Share learnings, data, and insights with the Lacoste JV financial community, ensuring an overall Brand focus.



What you need to have

  • Qualified ACA/Cima +2-3 years PQE
  • Experience of business partnering and providing support to a sales, product or supply chain function is essential
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional and multicultural business
  • Ability to work with commercial representatives
