LACOSTE is above all a legend

 

The legend of a fantastic tennis player, René Lacoste, a member of the famous French "Musketeers" Davis Cup Team and a star of the courts at Wimbledon, Forest Hills and Roland Garros.

 

The true story of "the Crocodile" dates back to 1927. René Lacoste liked to recount how this nickname came about and ultimately became a brand of worldwide renown.

 

“I was nicknamed "the Crocodile" by the American press, after I made a bet with the captain of the French Davis Cup Team. The public must have been fond of this nickname which conveyed the tenacity I displayed on the tennis courts, never letting go of my prey.”

 

In 1933, René Lacoste founded a company to manufacture the perfect tennis shirt. The original “1212” pique polo shirt featured the now legendary embroidered crocodile on the left breast - Lacoste was born and revolutionised sportswear and branding within sport.

 

Pentland is the name behind some of the world’s best sports, outdoor and fashion brands.

In 1991 Pentland became the worldwide licensee for Lacoste footwear and in 2018 the two will come together to leverage the global reach of both brands for the growth of this iconic brand.

 

The JV aims to be renowned for its premium quality and innovative footwear, with an emphasis on sports-influenced styles.

 

The key purpose of the role as Head of HR:

Working with two legacy businesses to achieve the mutual goal of creating an exciting proposition for the future of Lacoste footwear.

 

Reporting into the JV CEO and working as part of the Leadership team, the role holder will identify key people and organisation levers that will enable the delivery of commercial performance and build a people plan that delivers against these. This role will participate in the set-up of the JV and advise both the Leadership team and the JV Board on all People-related matters including the development of the Vision and Strategy as well as an engaging culture for this new entity.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Strategy and Executive Team

  • As a member of the JV leadership team, design and deliver the Lacoste Footwear HR people plan aligned with the strategic business goals
  • Working with the JV CEO, deliver an approach to building the effectiveness of the Lacoste Leadership team

 

Engagement

  • Lead the organisation’s engagement approach by using insights to develop solutions
  • Lead the approach to internal communications and take ownership in facilitating the leadership community to drive a culture of involvement

 

Talent and Capability

  • Accountable for the development of the global talent bench for the function, working with Centres of Expertise (Pentland HR Shared Services)
  • Work with JV leadership to identify functional capability requirements to deliver strategic business objectives and develop plans to address gaps and build capability for the future

 

Organisation Development

  • Design and define appropriate roles and accountabilities for the JV organisation and manage the change proactively working with both Lacoste and Pentland where appropriate

 

Operations

  • Lead the senior level decision-making for day-to-day people management matters, as well as contributing to the strategic direction of the business

 

Reporting and Insights

  • Accountable for people insights reporting and providing the leadership team with strategic and individual colleague performance and identify risks and opportunities

  • Extensive Senior Leadership partnering experience
  • Commercial mindset
  • Strategy development and implementation
  • Global experience, particularly European reach
  • Evidence of strong execution against a clear plan
  • Experience of working in a matrix environment within complex structures
  • Ability to analyse complex data and produce tangible insights
  • Ability to engage people of all levels of seniority to keep the organisation moving
  • Experience of designing organisations
  • Experience of delivering multiple change projects
