Key Purpose of Job:

 

Ability to translate a commercial brief and creative direction into product design.  Support the Creative Lead with design workload management and mentoring creative talent. Able to manage the challenging and complex design briefs for the related product category or brand.

 

Responsible for own portfolio of work ensuring that the brand DNA and seasonal strategies are implemented through all concepts and designs

  

To be a mentor for the design team, driving product aesthetics to the highest level while retaining commercial viability and delivering compelling, consumer led global designs and ranges  

  

Collaborate across multiple areas to ensure alignment. Engage, inspire and mentor within the Design team,  

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for conceptualising and delivering against Brand seasonal creative direction and product briefs, whilst maintaining Brand DNA, VBL and guidelines
  • Research and contribute in the creation of seasonal creative direction, trend overviews, colour and mood boards
  • Deliver consumer focused designs aligned with overall range direction, and which achieve commercial targets
  • Ensure own designs have a coherent and compelling offer to seamlessly merchandise into product categories and range, combining desirable aesthetics with credible performance and technical needs
  • Responsible for delivering allocated designs, on time based on seasonal and / or brand workload; from concept through to CAD work, colour overviews, creation of technical specifications and updates, to upload into PLM (or similar).
  • Push creative boundaries whilst delivering against commercial opportunities
  • Contribute towards cost saving solutions to achieve seasonal margin target whilst retaining creativity
  • Contribute, as required, to updating and maintaining Visual Brand Identity aligned to brand positioning and DNA
  • Deliver designs in a clear and concise format and present at design reviews, with detailed renderings and technical specifications in the required format in Photoshop and/or Illustrator
  • Attend and present at key stage gate meetings, creating professional presentations to clearly portray ideas, trend research, colour and style overviews in Photoshop and/or Illustrator
  • Actively participate in proto reviews ensuring design integrity is maintained through to final sign-off
  • To be a mentor for the design team, driving product aesthetics to the highest level while retaining commercial viability and delivering compelling, consumer led global designs and ranges
  • Support Innovation Team and Development Team to deliver design and colour specifications on time and at key stage gates in the product creation process
  • Actively research the market and trends, looking further than immediate scope of work and produce detailed reports following each research visit
  • Maintain communication with superiors throughout the process ensuring your message is clearly understood
  • (For brands where we are the licensee) Work with the Product Category team to design a range of seasonal products that meet the range briefs and licensor product approval process.  
  • (For brands where we are the licensor) Produce seasonal product design direction for licensees covering all relevant product categories. Ensure licensees are aware and correctly using the most up to date product and brand guidelines.

 

 

What you need to have

 

  • Proven Design experience in a relevant industry, or transferrable design experience in a consumer-led field
  • Consumer focused with a strong technical bias within their given design specialism
  • Strong creative skills with a proven commercial background
  • Proven track record of delivering technical designs with a thorough knowledge of technical specifications, construction and specific manufacturing needs
  • Strong sense of international market trends balanced with the importance of originality through invention
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, plus excellent freehand drawing and rendering skills. Knowledge of Excel an advantage
  • Proven ability to work within a critical path and meet deadlines, managing time efficiently to achieve completion of a professional standard of work
  • Able to manage and work to deadlines as well as multi-tasking
  • Very organised, structured and comfortable working with a minimum of supervision towards meeting short-term and long-term objectives
  • Collaborates effectively to maintain and develop trustful relationships with peers across the business or multiple functions and within the product leadership team
  • Ability to work across multiple functions with experience of working in a matrix structure a benefit
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to support team members through mentoring and coaching and actively sharing knowledge and experience
  • Communicates with enthusiasm

  • The ability to travel and spend time away from home
