Key Purpose of the Job

To support and assist the Chairman of Pentland Brands, in a variety of business contexts. You will provide briefings, analysis and presentations for internal and external audiences and ensure that all company information, external research and market data provided is insightful, accurate and concise.   

This is a fast-paced and varied role where you will be required to liaise with colleagues, partners, suppliers and customers to ensure the Chairman is prepared in advance of all meetings. You will be based in the UK at our Global Headquarters in London with occasional travel as required.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

Support the Chairman across five key areas: Pentland Group, Pentland Brands, JD Sports, Charity & Community and Academic responsibilities, through:


External business context

  • Develop an understanding of the macro-economic context.
  • Develop an understanding of Sports, Fashion and Outdoor market, including an understanding of the various business models that exist in these industries.
  • Keep up to date with regular news and insight on the above. Share this, including the potential implications for Pentland, with the Chairman on a daily basis.
  • Support the Chairman at external industrial and conference events.

Internal business context

  • Develop an understanding of the different business models across our portfolio.
  • Develop an understanding of the Pentland approach to brand building and be able to articulate how we have applied this across our brands.
  • Keep up to date on our brands business strategy and financial reports. Support the Chairman at all internal Pentland Brands events, such as the Brand Building Masterclass, Steps to Success and Ask Andy.
  • Act as a representative for the Chairman at Brand conferences, connecting with partners from around the world and understanding the latest Brand ambitions and focus.
  • Work with Pentland Group, supporting the Chairman by analysing investment opportunities.

Research and Analysis

  • Conduct research as required. This may include strategy, financial and marketing analysis on external companies and potential partners.
  • Prepare a summary of your findings; including both factual information and insight led recommendations.
  • Continuous research and awareness of industry best practice, consulting reports from reputable companies such as PwC, Deliotte and Harvard Business Review.

Meetings and Presentations

  • Ensure the Chairman is fully prepared for internal & external engagements.  This includes providing logistical support, preparing meeting/presentation material and ensuring the Chairman is aware of important contextual information, for example: the purpose of the engagement, who is attending, points of interest for the Chairman, etc.
  • Take meeting minutes and actions points as appropriate. Ensure these are actioned in a timely manner.
  • Act as a second pair of eyes at key engagements noting things like: did the message land, is the audience engaged, what feedback did you hear, etc.
  • Where appropriate, play an active role in meetings you attend; apply your knowledge and be curious.


  • Act as a role model & ambassador of Pentland culture, values and ways of working.
  • Work cohesively with the Board and Executive Office Administration Team to ensure the successful delivery of shared objectives.
  • At all times maintain an awareness of the key activities of the Chairman, the requests being made of him and the demands on his time.
  • Ensure highly confidential and sensitive information remains confidential.



                         What you need to have

  • University degree or equivalent is essential
  • A previous full time role in a commercial business is essential.
  • Awareness of personal development areas 
  • Computer literate – Advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook skills
  • Fluency in business English, both written and spoken, and ideally in at least one other language
  • Finance experience (ability to read and interpret profit/loss sheets)
  • Experience within a branded or FMCG environment would be advantageous
