    Job Purpose:

     

    Reporting to the Head of Materials, this role is responsible for managing end-to-end material sourcing activities and material development for the creation and delivery of world-class innovation and textile technologies to build and support our brands’ competitive advantage across all consumer segments and soft goods product categories.

     

    Needs to Do:

     

    • Keep up-to-date on new technologies and innovations and able to provide input to support product design and concepts.
    • Work with suppliers to translate trend brief, conduct material research and identify new development needs.
    • Partner with key stakeholders from brands, development, quality assurance and merchandising teams both in the UK and Hong Kong to provide material sourcing services and reliable support.
    • Establish and agree the technical criteria on which the company standards are based, together with the product team, suppliers and internal and external laboratories.
    • Manage material development from brief to quality sign off.
    • Support product development team on the Wearer Trial procedure.
    • Assist and monitor the lab dip approval timeline, colour standard and visual standard distribution. Ensure seasonal colour deadlines are met.
    • Conduct risk assessment to identify potential issues on quality during development process, alert business and provide suggestions to resolve issue or offer alternative solutions.
    • Monitor market raw material price trend, analyse and evaluate potential impacts to the business.
    • Develop negotiation package and conduct material price negotiation with suppliers.
    • Work with UK Planning team to translate product demand into material forecast.
    • Partner with suppliers to manage capacity assessment and capacity booking for both sample and bulk orders.
    • Ensure latest forecast is received by suppliers for preparation and production capacity planning. Manage material pre-built if required.
    • Keep track of suppliers’ bulk quality performance via Quality tracker tool.
    • Oversee suppliers’ 1st bulk approval, Print S/O approval and colour continuity performance.
    • Ensure all materials meet legal requirements, and keep up-to-date with changing legislation.
    • Partner with Corporate Responsibility team to increase suppliers’ compliance level and to drive sustainable initiatives.
    • Visit key suppliers regularly to ensure smooth collaboration, conducting regular business plan meetings.
    • Manage Material supplier performance scorecard.
    • Maintain Material Supplier Capacity Matrix.
    • Manage material library and database to create Material Footprint visibility.
    • Support Material Sourcing Strategies development.

     

     

     

     

     What you need to have

     

    • Degree in Textile Chemistry, Textile Technology or textiles-related studies or related experience.
    • At least 10 years relevant experience in textiles-related industry. Could have working experience in textile factory. Candidates with less experience may be considered for an Assistant Manager role.
    • Familiarity in textiles manufacturing process, from yarn to knitting/weaving to dyeing, printing and finishing, and all kinds of knit and woven fabrics.
    • Good fabric and trims technical knowledge, problem solving experience and understanding of quality standards.
    • Experience in working with active sport area preferred.
    • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Good spoken & written English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
    • Strong Negotiation skills.
