    As a key member of our Innovation Research team, reporting into the Research & Innovation Lead, you will be responsible for coordinating and conducting the research programmes for all innovation projects to ensure that we can define clear performance criteria with the aim of determining what is desirable, feasible and viable.

     

    Working closely with the Testing Manager, will also help inform clear recommendations as to what actions should be taken following the analysis of test results.

     

    • Coordinates with external companies, institutions and experts to conduct Research activities within apparel, equipment and digital technology.
    • Works with Product teams to determine what technical and performance claims can be made for product features and benefits.
    • Supports the Innovation planning by integrating Research activities into projects at the right time in the Concept to Consumer journey.
    • Identifies and recommends external companies, institutions and experts that may provide new technologies or capabilities to improve or grow our ability to deliver (and exceed) what our consumer want.
    • Manages the external research projects with global facilities, institutions and experts.
    • Personally conducts the research activities locally and globally when required.
    • Works with the Brand teams and Insights to understand what consumer/customer benefits are priorities for the business to deliver.
    • Explores and understands what consumer benefit is feasible to deliver or what it will take to become feasible.
    • Manage and implement the Research plan in conjunction with key stakeholders.
    • Works closely with the Innovation Testing Manager to ensure that correct testing protocols are managed effectively and efficiently.
    • Grow and exploit the IP portfolio in association with the Innovation Leadership and Pentland legal team.

     

     

                             What you need to have

     

    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sports Science/Technology or a similar degree
    • Experience in leading edge scientific research, ideally within or for a global sportswear brand or similar industry
    • Experience in the management of research activities.
    • Experience in managing time critical plans and meeting strategic objectives
    • Experience of detailed experimental design and working with innovation, technology and science experts and information sources from across the globe for high quality data generation
    • Experience in working with consumers and users at all levels and experience working with elite athletes / coaches of additional benefit
    • Exceptional technical knowledge of applied design and the process of innovation, including latest market / research developments and knowhow
    • Experience in sports technology, human physiology / biomechanics, human factors and usability standards.
    • Proven understanding of material properties, product construction / manufacture constraints and digital technologies (power consumption, thermal qualities, motion detection, etc)
    • In-depth understanding of research, testing and design methodologies appropriate to Outdoor, Swim or Team Sport and other comparable activities.
    • Proven ability of working with research testing facilities as well as external individuals, institutes and facilities to support research activities
    • Proven ability in numerous research disciplines from ethnography to group facilitation and presentation of research data to users, peers and executive level audiences
    • Experience of cross functional team working and integration
    • Experience in application of computer programs to an appropriate level for the purpose of creativity, data management, presentation, report writing and communication.
