    Key Purpose of Job:

     

    Actively participate and lead on a day-to-day basis in the Product Creation process for the FWD.

    Provide effective input for the development of the all footwear brands designs from conceptualisation, prototyping through to commercialisation and production.

    Provide the Developer with strong people management skills together with expert and technical focus and direction.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Support, challenge and develop direct reports, ensuring they are managed effectively and have the skills, motivation and passion to meet the needs of the business
    • Initiate seasonal development research and provide input from seasonal development research to support Design & Category to allow inclusion of innovation and differentiation into Seasonal Product Briefs.
    • In liaison with Footwear Technologist and design develop, amend or select suitable lasts and tooling to ensure that all product meets the FWD Standards.
    • Review with design all outsole and componentry Blue Prints, Wood Models and Rapid Prototypes before communicating final approval to open mould(s), negotiating and monitoring costs incurred.
    • Provide technology input to product direction, enabling FWD brands to deliver stylish premium products.
    • Implement procedures to assure quality from the earliest stage of product development through to commercialisation.
    • Manage the price structure for the specific Range responsible for, with effective pre-costing scrubbing CBDs to ensure product achieve target or improved margins whilst maintaining FWD product values of quality and comfort.
    • Monitor critical path to ensure OTIF on all seasonal product creation tasks, escalating exceptions to Development Manager.
    • Assist the Design and Asia teams to establish and maintain effective relationships with key material vendors and material developments.
    • Support Development Manager to investigate potential new materials and vendors, keeping up with the current market place.
    • Accountable for managing the development data in collaboration with Category & Design from initial range planning stage through to final line selection.
    • Develop materials in collaboration with Design.
    • Monitor samples against SRF and take corrective action with manufacturing teams, agents and factories.
    • Accountable for maintaining and updating product library of approved confirmation samples & archiving samples within agreed timeframes.
    • Work with extended footwear team in Asia to ensure that common objectives are efficiently met.
    • Seasonal development trips to Asia to assist design in efficient engineering of product briefs.
    • Accountable for the tracking and receipt of line review samples as per agreed critical path dates.
    • Co-ordinate weekly team catch up meetings between design and development.

     

    Needs to have

    • Footwear product development and relevant industry relevant experience.
    • Fitting specialist experience
    • Solid relevant experience gained within the footwear industry
    • Excellent knowledge across competitor sector
    • Preferred people management skills
    • Coaching skills
    • Effective communication skills
    • Good Microsoft office skills
    • Design and development packages experience – Adobe Packages & BP readers (Myriad)
