    Key Purpose of Job:

     

    As part of the Applied Innovation team reporting directly into the Head of Applied Innovation, you will work closely with the Brand and Innovation Concept designers to engineer our new and progressive Outdoor apparel that help deliver better product solutions than what exists currently in market.

     

    This will be a highly collaborative role, working closely with the Innovation Concept and Brand Design team to define the design intent, as well as the Operations teams to ensure that the most promising concepts and designs can be engineered brilliantly into our commercial propositions that make it to market.

     

    With a focus on the thermal comfort and water management performance needs you will also need to work closely with our Research team and external experts and athletes to ensure our engineered solutions meet the standards and expectations we aim to deliver

     

    Engineers outdoor garment/apparel with a focus on the high performance and unmet consumer needs in the outdoors environments.

     

    Responsibilities 

    • Engineers the garment/apparel with input from the Innovation Research and Brand team to define the product performance needs.
    • Define how the garment/apparel can meet performance requirements working closely Materials Manager (Apparel) and Design.
    • Build relationships with athletes and mountain and outdoor experts for input and evaluation of the product during development. Implement the global Innovation Product Development plan, to enable the delivery of key products and technology platforms in line with the Innovation R&D plan against agreed commercial objectives, timelines and brand strategies.
    • For defined commercial Brand projects, achieve commercialisation on time and in full against target investment and margin parameters, exploiting cross-functional opportunities at all times.
    • Grow and exploit the Berghaus IP portfolio in association with the Pentland legal team
    • Be an Innovation ambassador and work closely with the Brand Marketing team to ensure full global marketing and PR value is achieved from new product technologies
    • Coordinate with the Innovation Research Lead to collaborate with external development and research partners, identify new opportunities to create competitive advantage
    • For commercial Brand projects, manage fit and amendments following wearer trials of pre-production samples and approve production samples, grades and all size sets.
    • Create patterns, prototypes and full documentation to support handover from Innovation to Operations and continually explore best practice to in doing so.
    • Maintain the Outdoor Apparel Innovation samples library
    • Define and develop product quality and performance standards and liaise with Operations to ensure these are maintained through production of commercial products.
    • Responsible for achieving the product specific Swim Engineering OGSM, KPI’s and Milestones.

     

     

                             What you need to have

     

    • Experience in contour product development within or for a global sportswear brand or similar industry
    • Demonstrable understanding of the challenges involved with Outdoor activities
    • Experience in the delivery of commercial, product development activities at a global level
    • Experience in establishing and successfully implementing time critical plans and meeting strategic objectives
    • Experience of working with product manufacturers from across the globe
    • Experience in working with and fitting consumers and conducting appropriate wearer trials
    • Proven technical knowledge of applied products and their construction
    • Experience in application of computer programs to an appropriate level for the purpose of creativity, development, data management, presentation, report writing and communication
    • Proven ability of working with external individuals, institutes and facilities to support product development
    • Experience of cross functional team working and integration
    • Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple projects on cost, on time and in full
    • Experience of interpreting designs, creating patterns, manipulating stretch materials and working with garment manufacturers.
